2026 Toyota Tacoma Trim Level Review

The Toyota Tacoma has built its reputation as a dependable and capable machine over the years, and it continues to innovate and improve with the release of the 2026 Toyota Tacoma. If you’ve been searching for a new pickup truck for comfortable and stylish rides or tough jobs around Kansas City, Overland Park, or Independence, read on to learn about the 2026 Toyota Tacoma changes and what you can expect from each trim level.

2026 Toyota Tacoma Redesign

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma doesn’t have a redesign so much as a freshening up. The 2024 Tacoma had a massive redesign, which subsequent year’s models have improved upon. For the 2026 Tacoma, here are the major updates you should know about:

  • New colors: Heritage Blue and Wave Maker (TRD Pro exclusive)
  • Improved suspension tuning
  • Black front logo added to TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD PreRunner
  • 18" TRD wheels and 32" tires in TRD Off-Road Premium Package
  • A tow hitch standard on the SR XtraCab

While there are mostly only cosmetic changes to the 2026 Toyota Tacoma “redesign,” there’s still plenty that carries over that you’ll enjoy.

2026 Toyota Tacoma Specs

2026 Toyota Tacoma Engine Options

Every gas-powered Tacoma comes equipped with a turbo 2.4L I-4 engine, though there are two different tunings. The entry-level Tacoma SR is tuned to put out 228 horsepower, while the rest of the trims get 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.

You’ll have your choice between rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, as well as an eight-speed auto transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. The 2026 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid gets the i-FORCE MAX version of the 2.4L engine, pairing it with an electric motor, making 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, and pairing with the eight-speed auto transmission.

2026 Toyota Tacoma Cabs and Beds

With the Tacoma, you have a choice between two cab sizes and two bed options. There’s the XtraCab, which is a two-door setup for two passengers, and there’s the Double Cab, which has four doors and can seat up to five passengers. The XtraCab comes with a six-foot bed, and the Double Cab can be equipped with either a five-foot or six-foot bed.

2026 Toyota Tacoma Towing Capacity

The non-hybrid Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 lbs. when properly equipped; the hybrid maxes out at 6,000 lbs. Interestingly, the gas Tacomas are rated for payloads up to 1,705 lbs., while the hybrid is rated for 1,710 lbs. If you have any questions about capability in any Tacoma trim, or what you’ll need to max out the Tacoma towing capacity, feel free to visit our showroom, and our team will be happy to help.

2026 Toyota Tacoma MPG

Now let’s take a look at the fuel economy for each engine:

  • 2.4L base engine: 20 city, 26 highway, 23 combined
  • 2.4L enhanced engine: 20 city, 24 highway, 22 combined
  • 2.4L hybrid: 20 city, 24 highway, 23 combined

While the enhanced engine and the hybrid get similar numbers, remember that the hybrid has more power and torque under the hood, making these numbers all the more impressive.

2026 Toyota Tacoma Interior Updates and Tech

There are no major changes from the 2025 Toyota Tacoma to the 2026 model, but when you consider the interior features of the Tacoma, there’s not really any reason to fix something that isn’t broken. The standard Tacoma comes equipped with cloth seating and improved materials throughout the dash and cabin from the 2025 model.

Leather seats with heating and cooling functions are available in the upper trims, as is the larger 14” infotainment system (lower-level trims ship standard with an 8” touchscreen), a 12.3” digital gauge cluster, and a head-up display.

Let’s take a look at the dimensions for the Double Cab (with seating for up to five passengers):

  • Front Legroom: 42.9”
  • Rear Legroom: 33.7”
  • Front Headroom: 39.7”
  • Rear Headroom: 38.4”
  • Passenger Volume: 100–105 cubic feet

Cut out the rear legroom, and you have the dimensions for the XtraCab (minus some passenger volume, but let’s not bother with too much math today).
