When the highly anticipated 2019 Toyota Camry made its debut on our lot, we decided to run a full comparison with the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, and we’re happy to say that the Camry came out on top! Performance

The 2019 Camry is not messing around when it comes to muscle under the hood. Its 2.5L I-4 engine churns out a robust 203 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, sure to get your heart pumping on your rides up and down Interstate 70. By comparison, the Chevrolet Malibu equips a smaller 1.5L I-4 engine and performance unsurprisingly suffers as a result — it matches the Camry’s 184 lb.-ft. of torque, but only delivers a meager 160 horsepower. You’ll also have a Direct Shift 8-speed Electronically Controlled automatic transmission with intelligence running the show in the Camry, orchestrating shifts with pinpoint accuracy. This means your ride will be smooth and efficient, as evidenced by the incredibly impressive 29/41 MPG city/hwy1 fuel economy rating! The Chevy Malibu only achieves 29/36 MPG city/hwy2, likely a result of its less-precise Continuously Variable Transmission.

Safety

The Camry puts the other cars in its segment on the ropes by pairing advanced performance with state-of-the-art safety. Toyota’s Safety Sense™ P3 package comes standard and provides an incredible level of active protection, including Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist4, which monitors the lines on either side of your vehicle and will warn you if you begin to stray over one, eventually correcting your steering for you if need be. You’ll also have Dynamic Radar Cruise Control5 for even more backup on the highway — this feature intelligently adjusts your speed for you to maintain a safe distance behind the car in front of you. Disappointingly, neither of these capabilities comes standard in the 2019 Malibu. Nor do rear side airbags6, which are just another example of how the Camry goes the extra mile in protecting you and your family.

Interior

Rounding out this dominant showing by the Toyota Camry is its spacious and well-appointed interior. Let’s begin by measuring the cabin, where the Camry’s total 100.4 cubic ft. of passenger volume translates to 42.1 inches of legroom in front and 38 inches of headroom in back, a luxurious amount of space in which you and your passengers can easily stretch out. By comparison, the Chevy Malibu can’t quite measure up, offering only 41.5 inches of front legroom and 37.5 inches of back headroom. As far as features go, the Camry comes out on top with standard amenities like a trip computer, remote trunk release, and intermittent wipers, none of which you’ll find in the Malibu.

Brandon Holsburg, Jordan Darby, and Shawn Elliot did an outstanding job of administrating and resolving the complex problems I was having with my RAV4 Radio and associated smartphone and other device issues. Brandon ensured that my problem was timely assigned to the correct Subject Matter Expert , Shawn Elliot. Shawn performed the complex diagnosis required on the entertainment system to resolve the performance inconsistencies I was experiencing. Shawn purged the associated software and reinstalled the software with the latest versions and updates that were required to remedy the performance and reliability issues. He took his time to ensure the job was done right. Meanwhile, Jordan Darby, the Service Manager, effectively and throughly provided excellent oversight.

In response to my emergency of a dead battery while I was remote in another state, everyone was very helpful and responsive. And they immediately supported me coming in after I arrived from the airport even though it was 30 minutes before closing. Gene who seems to take care of me most often, was again very courteous and knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable about what would be done and when it would be done. 6. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death.
