How Often Should I Get an Oil Change?

If you want to ensure that your ride is active and healthy for many years to come, you’ll want to keep up with regular vehicle maintenance. Perhaps, most important of all is getting consistent oil changes. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how often this service should be performed, so read on below to find out and then schedule a service with us here at Molle Toyota!

Importance of Oil Changes

There are plenty of reasons why oil changes are crucial, but the most vital part it plays is maintaining the performance of your engine. Without this slick fluid, your powertrain would quickly overheat and leave you with a big bill on your hands. On top of that, oil diverts dirt and debris away so that it doesn’t accumulate and gunk up all the moving parts inside. Last but not least, your ride sustains much less wear and tear when it has adequate amounts of oil, which means your vehicle’s lifespan can dramatically improve if you swap old batches for new ones regularly.

How to Check Your Oil

These days, oil lasts much longer than it ever did before, so the usual recommendation of 3,000 to 5,000 miles per batch isn’t as accurate as it used to be. One of the best ways to determine whether it’s time to make an appointment at our Service Bay is by checking the condition of your ride’s fluid at home. This is actually relatively easy to do and shouldn’t take longer than five minutes. To start, open the hood and find the dipstick, which is typically adorned with a bright yellow top. Remove it, wipe the residual liquid from the bottom, then insert it into the engine again before pulling it out once more. Now, check the bottom. If your oil isn’t within the indicated range or its dark and less viscous that it should be, now is the time to stop in.

Considering that I needed to get a car quickly to avoid extra car rental expenses, I spent two days scouring for a car. I finally settled on the Toyota Corolla which had all the top of the line features that my totaled Ford Focus had. Jonathan took time with me, knew I wasn't going to make a decision the first day and gave me the information needed and gave me space. I was happy for the tire sale as I desperately needed tires before winter. Was disappointed how long it took to get them installed - didn't realize it was going to take 3 hours, wish I would have known. The gentleman who drove my car up to the service desk needs to pull his pants up and wear a belt. His pants were hanging low, his red underwear was showing, he looked very unprofessional and a little like a "thug". Also, as I drove away I realized I had a burnt out headlight - I think they could have checked on the other things of my car to make sure everything was functional prior to my leaving as a courtesy since I have only ever taken this car to Molle for service (last 6.5 years). I had to stop at the auto parts store on my way home to purchase a headlight. Added to my semi frustrated day.

I made an appointment because my tire pressure light was on. I got the appointment the same day. When I got there, Joe was very nice and pleasant. They took a look at my tires and found that all were low, but nothing was found to be wrong. Joe explained that because of the recent temperature change, sometimes tire pressure is impacted. They checked all 4 tires and sent me on my way. Fast service, kind technician and no charge!
